    Eugene O’Neill's The Hairy Ape starring Olivier Award winner Bertie Carvel begins previews at the Old Vic on Saturday 17 October.

    The second production under new Artistic Director Matthew Warchus, The Hairy Ape is an iconic piece of American drama about class and identity by Nobel and Pulitzer prize-winner O’Neill, whose other works include Long Day's Journey Into Night, The Iceman Cometh, A Moon for the Misbegotten, Beyond the Horizon, Anna Christie, Desire Under the Elms, Strange Interlude, Mourning Becomes Electra and Ah, Wilderness!

    Bertie Carvel, whose credits include BBC One's Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, Matilda The Musical (RSC, West End, Broadway), Bakkhai (Almeida), Revelations (Hampstead), The Life of Galileo, The Man of Mode (National Theatre), Parade (Donmar), stars as Yank.

    Directed by the acclaimed, multi-award-winning director Richard Jones (ROH's Anna Nicole Young Vic's Public Enemy, The Government Inspector, Annie Get Your Gun, the RSC's A Midsummer Night’s Dream, National Theatre's Tales from the Vienna Woods, Into the Woods at the Phoenix Theatre), Christopher Akrill, Adam Burton, Charlie Cameron, Okorie Chukwu, Buffy Davis, Callum Dixon, Phil Hill, Elan James, Nicholas Karimi, Ben Lee, Oliver Llewellyn-Jenkins, Luke Murphy, Steffan Rhodri and Rosie Sheehy complete The Hairy Ape cast.
