Jamie Lloyd will direct Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman’s Tony Award-winning musical Assassins at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 21 November 2014 until 7 March 2015.

Casting is yet to be announced for the new production, which looks at people throughout history who have attempted, and in some cases succeeded, to assassinate the President of the United States.

Assassins premiered off-Broadway in 1990 and transferred to the Donmar Warehouse in 1992 directed by Sam Mendes (Charlie And The Chocolate Factory) and starring Henry Goodman and Louise Gold. A 2004 Broadway revival won five Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival and Best Direction.

Assassins continues a long line of Sondheim musicals at the Menier Chocolate Factory, following last year's Olivier Award winning West End transfer Merrily We Roll Along as well as A Little Night Music and Sunday In The Park With George.

Jamie Lloyd is overseeing his second Trafalgar Transformed season at Trafalgar Studios, where Martin Freeman currently stars in Shakespeare's Richard III. His directorial credits also include The Commitments at the Palace Theatre and the upcoming Urinetown at the Apollo Theatre.
