J.B. Priestley’s modern morality play AN INSPECTOR CALLS is considered a classing of mid-20th century English theatre.
First performed in the Soviet Union in 1945, followed immediately by London in 1946, AN INSPECTOR CALLS took Priestley just a week to write and is now considered to be one of his most famous works. The play returned to London under the direction of Stephen Daldry in 1992 and went on to win the Olivier Award for Best Revival in 1993. Multiple runs have come to the London stage since, most recently for a four month run at the Wyndham’s Theatre in 2009, and fans are hopeful that the show will return in the near future.
