Bad Jews

Following record-breaking, sold-out runs, the original West End production of Joshua Harmon’s comedy BAD JEWS returns to the Arts Theatre in London for 11 weeks only!

Set over one night in a Manhattan apartment, a family’s younger generation battles it out to decide who is the most deserving of a precious heirloom passed down from their beloved grandfather. Would it be the bossy, overbearing and fanatical Daphna, her wealthy cousin Liam, his non-Jewish girlfriend Melody, or Jonah, who would prefer not to get involved?

Family tensions run high when a loved one dies in “a riotous evening of familial love and hate” (Time Out).

Directed by Michael Longhurst, this “blisteringly funny” (Sunday Times) piece premiered in New York in 2012 before having two sold out West End engagements. Off-Broadway, the play was thrice-nominated for Outer Critics Circle Awards and Lucille Lortel Awards.

What is Bad Jews about?

A treasured family heirloom with religious significance is up for grabs after a beloved grandfather – and Holocaust survivor – has died, but who deserves it the most? Daphna, a bossy, overbearing, religious fanatic? Liam, the wealthy cousin who’s dating somebody who isn’t Jewish? Or Jonah, his brother, who would doesn’t want to even be involved in the fight? The night after funeral, the three contenders fight over family, faith and legacy – all in the crucible of a cramped Manhattan apartment.
