STUFF HAPPENS is a historical play by renowned playwright David Hare which focuses on the real-life events that took place prior to the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

The play features dialogue and direct quotes from the characters’ real-life counterparts and elaborates on human dramas such as the frustrations of power and the restrictions of diplomacy. These main themes are presented through varied viewpoints to form arguments for and against the Iraq war.

Premiering at the National Theatre, London, in 2004 STUFF HAPPENS has since been performed around the world including at Los Angeles’ Mark Taper Forum in 2005 and at Sydney’s Seymour Center also in 2005.

What is Stuff Happens about?

Stuff Happens is a historical play which starts at George Bush’s election in November 2000 and concludes around April 2004. It focuses on real people and real events that lead up to the Iraq war in 2003. David Hare, the playwright, does not claim that the play is a documentary, however it does feature direct quotes and dialogue from the characters’ real-life counterparts.
