The acclaimed ROSENCRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD by Tom Stoppard is an absurdist, existential tragicomedy which premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1966.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are two minor characters in Shakespeare’s Hamlet. ROSENCRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD expands upon the exploits of the courtiers, mainly taking place “in the wings” of Hamlet.

Fragments of the original scenes from Hamlet are re-enacted along with brief appearances from major characters. Between these scenes, we follow the two protagonists, who, witnessing the onstage events, voice their confusion towards the events to which they have no direct knowledge.
