After a critically acclaimed, sell-out run at Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester, Jonathan Larson’s RENT is rumored to come to the West End in the near future.

Directed by Luke Sheppard (& Juliet, Spring Awakening), this “exuberant, heartfelt revival” (The Stage) is loosely based on Giacomo Puccini’s opera La Bohème. It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive and create a life in Lower Manhattan’s East Village.

This Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning musical is a “life-affirming triumph” (Sunday Mirror). Featuring hit songs such as Rent, Without You, La Vie La Bohème and the iconic Seasons of Love, it “pulsates with life, colour and passion” (WhatsOnStage) – and it could be on a London stage very soon.

What is Rent about?

RENT is set in New York’s East Village and centers its story around a group of bohemians who live under the threat of losing their apartment. Among this small group is Mark and Roger, who struggle through the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, all under the shadow of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

It was originally produced in New York by New York Theatre Workshop and on Broadway by Jeffrey Seller, Kevin McCollum, Allan S. Gordon and New York Theatre Workshop.
