Emmy and BAFTA-award winning actress Jodie Comer makes her West End debut in PRIMA FACIE at the Harold Pinter Theatre from Friday 15 April 2022.

This multi-award winning play from playwright Suzie Miller and director Justin Martin will have it’s UK premiere in a strictly limited run.

A one-woman tour de force, PRIMA FACIE sees a female barrister fall victim to the patriarchal justice system she has spent years profiting from. Heralded as five-star “urgent and compelling work” (Time Out), it comes to a world class London theatre for nine weeks only.

What is Prima Facie about?

“Every winner might be the one who loses the next day”

Jodie Comer stars as Tessa, an exceptional young barrister who has come from humble beginnings and risen to the pinnacle of her field. She loves to win. Her competitiveness is what gives her an edge, despite a colleague telling her that it’s more about the fact a woman defending a man sits better with a jury.

Her overriding sense of duty countermands any feeling of feminism. When a prima facie case puts her on the other side of the courtroom, Tessa is forced to contend with the doubt she’s so ruthlessly cast over other women.

Inspired by the people playwright Suzie Miller met during her time working with victims of sexual assault as a criminal defense lawyer, PRIMA FACIE’s world premiere at the Griffin Theatre in Australia, gained widespread critical acclaim for it’s brutal take on the built-in biases in legal systems around the world. In a culture of “her word against his”, the conversation has never been more relevant.

Star of recent Hollywood blockbusters The Last Duel with Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Adam Driver and Free Guy with Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer is most well known for her portrayal of Villanelle in the BBC’s Killing Eve, but has also featured in Doctor Foster, Thirteen, and Help with Stephen Graham. She was also in Holby City in one of her first television roles when she was just 16 years old. PRIMA FACIE marks her first appearance on stage in a West End theatre.
