What is Hadestown about?

Set in against a post-apocalyptic, Great Depression back drop, HADESTOWN tells the tale of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice. Both are trapped in a life of poverty, and desperate to escape. Winter comes around, and Persephone must return to the underworld and to her husband King Hades, who rules with an iron fist.

When Eurydice goes in search of a better future, she ends up trapped in Hades’ foundry. What can Orpheus do when rescuing her could condemn them both to an eternity of enslavement?

HADESTOWN pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers and singers, the production is a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that grabs you and never lets go.
