The 1987 fairy tale inspired musical, INTO THE WOODS is one of renowned composer, Stephen Sondheim’s most well-known productions.
Originally a book by author James Lapine, the Tony Award-winning musical has seen several successful runs since it’s Broadway premiere in 1987 including it’s first US tour in 1988 and a West End production in 1990, where it returned in 2010. INTO THE WOODS also returned to Broadway in both 2002 and 2022 and has been touring the US for a second time since February 2023.
In 2014, INTO THE WOODS was adapted into a musical film version by Disney which featured an all-star ensemble cast including Emily Blunt, James Corden, Meryl Streep, Chris Pine and Johnny Depp. Directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago 2002, The Little Mermaid 2023), the film received three nominations at both the Academy Awards and the Golden Globe Awards.

What is Into The Woods about?
Into The Woods is a multi-narrative musical that combines fairy tales such as Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, Cinderella as well as many other well known plots from the original Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault stories. The musical is centred on the story of a childless baker and his wife who are cursed by a vengeful witch. Throughout their journey to end the witch’s curse, the couple interact with other fairy tale characters and explore themes of wishes, family and unintended consequences of actions.
