Cyrano De Bergerac

The Jamie Lloyd Company’s Olivier award-winning production of CYRANO DE BERGERAC returns to the West End at the Harold Pinter Theatre, following a sold-out season at the Playhouse Theatre in 2019. James McAvoy reprises his critically acclaimed role in this unmissable revival of Edmond Rostand’s masterwork, inventively and ingeniously adapted by Martin Crimp. Jamie Lloyd directs a world-class cast, in an electrifying ensemble performance that celebrates linguistic ingenuity and the power of human connection.

Fierce with a pen and notorious in combat, Cyrano almost has it all – if only he could win the heart of his true love. There’s just one big problem: he has a nose as huge as his heart. Will a society engulfed by narcissism get the better of De Bergerac – or can his mastery of language set Roxane’s world alight?

CYRANO DE BERGERAC blazes into the Harold Pinter Theatre from 3 Feb for a strictly limited 5-week season.

What is Cyrano de Bergerac about?

In this reinvented production, Jamie Lloyd drops the big prosthetic nose to get to the very essence of what the play is about: masking our deepest insecurities. It is also a play about the dangerous lure of language, and its capacity to both enchant and deceive.

James McAvoy’s take on Cyrano was called “a revelation” when it played to sold-out audiences at the Playhouse Theatre in 2020. McAvoy, whose screen credits include the X-Men series and M. Night Shyamalan’s Split and the follow-up Glass, is also currently starring in the BBC/HBO fantasy series His Dark Materials.

The Jamie Lloyd Company is no stranger to playwright Harold Pinter’s work. His production of Betrayal, starring Tom Hiddleston, Zawe Ashton and Charlie Cox, recently received critical acclaim on the West End and Broadway. Before that, his Pinter at the Pinter season saw the director occupy the Harold Pinter Theatre for four months, staging all six of Pinter’s short plays.
