New production images capture the Old Vic’s acclaimed revival of Alan Ayckbourn’s classic marriage farce, starring Roger Allam and Dorothy Atkinson.

New production images have been released for How the Other Half Loves, offering the first full look at the Old Vic’s celebrated revival of Alan Ayckbourn’s 1969 marriage farce. The images capture Roger Allam and Dorothy Atkinson as the terminally vague Frank Foster and his frustrated, adulterous wife Fiona, alongside Ayesha Antoine, Rowan Polonski, Adam Gillen and Laura Elsworthy as the play’s tangled web of suburban couples.

Rob Howell’s design leans hard into 1970s period detail throughout, from patterned wallpaper and tasselled lampshades to trimphone handsets in red and green, tissue boxes tucked among the clutter, and a drinks trolley loaded with decanters: the kind of loving, lived-in suburban set dressing that reviewers have widely praised.

Directed by Phillip Breen and staged in the round exactly as Ayckbourn originally intended, the production has been widely praised since opening, with reviews consistently landing at four stars across the Independent, WhatsOnStage, the Telegraph, the Times and the FT, and singling out Allam’s performance as a genuine comic masterclass. How the Other Half Loves plays at the Old Vic until 19 September 2026.
