James Graham’s hotly anticipated new play brings the private life of economist John Maynard Keynes to the stage, starring Olivier winner Rory Kinnear and Royal Ballet Principal Natalia Osipova, directed by Nicholas Hytner at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.
September brings the opening of the most eagerly awaited new plays of the West End season. The Standard of Living, from three-time Olivier Award winner James Graham, receives its world premiere at the Theatre Royal Haymarket this autumn, telling the story of economist John Maynard Keynes, the man who, in daring to imagine a different kind of future, helped reshape the Western world and became the driving force behind arts funding in Britain.
Starring Rory Kinnear as Keynes, alongside Royal Ballet Principal Natalia Osipova making her West End debut, and directed by Nicholas Hytner, this is a genuine theatrical event: a reunion of major creative talent, brought together to tell a story of politics, economics, art and love.
The Standard of Living plays at the Theatre Royal Haymarket with previews from 21 September 2026, with opening night 29 September, until 12 December 2026
