Cole Porter's High Society opened at the Old Vic Theatre last night to four and five star reviews from the Daily Mail, The Telegraph, The Independent, and The Times.

With five stars, the Daily Mail's Quentin Letts called it “Summer fun… all hail an uncomplicated, super show.”

Serena Davis of The Telegraph gave High Society four stars, calling it “a swell party…irresistible…one of the hits of the summer.” She also reserved praise for jazz musician Joe Stilgoe and band leader Theo Jamieson who deliver “a breathtaking piano duet” and director Maria Friedman who “knows a thing or two about delivering barn-storming song-and-dance.”

The Independent's Holly Williams gave the musical another four star review, saying “What a treat this show is… [it] certainly makes for a ‘swellegant, elegant’ last hurrah for the Old Vic's outgoing artistic director Kevin Spacey.” She also praised leading lady Kate Fleetwood who “gives a gut-busting, shimmeringly varied performance, where a glittering surface masks hidden depths.”

High Society is playing at the Old Vic Theatre until 22 August 2015.
