Rediscover this timeless classic about love and freedom, with music and lyrics by Rodgers and Hammerstein. With a score that includes the iconic ‘Do-Re-Mi’, ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain’, ‘My Favourite Things’, ‘Sixteen Going on Seventeen’ and ‘Edelweiss’, THE SOUND OF MUSIC strikes a resounding note with audiences across the globe to this day.
Set in Salzburg, Austria just before the outbreak of World War II, THE SOUND OF MUSIC is based on “The Trapp Family Singers” by Maria Augusta Trapp. This will be the first time that a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical has been performed at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre.
Presented by arrangement with Josef Weinberger Limited on behalf of R&H Theatricals of New York, THE SOUND OF MUSIC will run from 25 July until 07 September 2013, with press night 05 August, and book by Howard Lindsay and Russell Crouse.

McKintosh previously worked on the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre productions of Hello, Dolly! (2009), and Crazy for You, for which he won the 2012 Olivier for Best Costume Design. With experience both on the West and Broadway, his other theatre credits include The 39 Steps, The Knot of the Heart, The Heretic, Royal Shakespeare Company’s Pericles, John Gabriel Borkman, Fiddler on the Roof, Noises Off, The Doctor’s Dilemma, and Viva Forever.

Mitchell’s previous theatre credits include the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre’s Olivier Award-winning Crazy for You, in addition to the West End’s A Chorus of Disapproval, Singin’ in the Rain, Written on the Heart, Yes Prime Minister, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Dirty Dancing, Kiss Me Kate, Lend Me A Tenor, The Play What I Wrote, Brighton Rock, and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe at Kensington Gardens. Mitchell is also an Associate Artist for the Chichester Festival Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
