The Tailor Made Man Tickets

  • THE TAILOR-MADE MAN will receive its world premiere at London's Arts Theatre on Thursday 21 February 2013, following previews from 13 February, for a limited eight-week season ending on 6 April. THE TAILOR-MADE MAN is the true story of the silent film star William Haines, who was fired by MGM Studios and Louis B Mayer because he was gay and refused to marry and give up his lifelong partner Jimmy Shields.

In 1930, William “Billy” Haines was one of MGM’s most idolised male stars, tailor-made to always get the girl in every film. But behind the scenes, he cruised every bit player and stagehand in sight.

Billy lived openly with his lover and former stand-in Jimmy Shields – which was tolerated by MGM until rumours began to leak out into the public. Louis B Mayer ordered him to marry the sultry silent screen vamp Pola Negri. Defiant, Billy refused and was fired. He reinvented himself, fashioning an even more successful second career as an interior designer to the stars.

This powerful account exposes the truth about Hollywood, its system and hypocrisy, but above all celebrates Billy and Jimmy’s turbulent, passionate love story that survived more than over 50 years.

THE TAILOR-MADE MAN will star Faye Tozer as Marion Davies and Dylan Turner as William Haines.

A member of Brit award-winning, recently reformed pop group Steps, Faye Tozer has enjoyed a number 1 album, sell-out tour and a hit television show. When Steps originally split up in 2001, Faye went on to have a top 10 hit with Russell Watson, Someone Like You, which spurred an arena tour in the UK and New Zealand. Her musical theatre tours include Tell Me on a Sunday, Love Shack, Me and My Girl, Dial M for Murder and Over the Rainbow. Faye first made her West End theatre debut in Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens.

Dylan Turner’s West End theatre credits includes Chariots of Fire, Rock of Ages, Life is a Dream, Mamma Mia! and Grease, as well as the UK tours of Chicago and Footloose.

Claudio Macor, who wrote the book and original play, has now also written the book for the musical, and will serve as director, with Martin Constantine as the creative associate. Produced in London by Stephen McGill, with music by Duncan Walsh Atkins and Adam Meggido, lyrics by Adam Meggido, and musical adaptation by Amy Rosenthal. Nathan M Wright is responsible for the choreography, with design by Sophia Simensky, lighting by Humphrey McDermott, sound by Tom Marshall and musical direction by Duncan Walsh Atkins.
