Green Day's American Idiot -- which premiered in New York and ran on Broadway for over a year -- is set to receive its UK premiere starting in October 2012. The tour will begin in Southampton, and move on to Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dublin, Manchester and Birmingham before finishing with a run at London's Hammersmith Apollo Theatre from 3-8 December 2012.

In a press statement, Green Day's frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said, "We're excited to be bringing the US stage production of American Idiot to the UK and Ireland. We played to some of the most insane crowds when we toured the album there, and we can't wait for our friends across the pond to see the play."

American Idiot features the music of Green Day with the lyrics of its lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong. The book is by Armstrong and Michael Mayer and direction is by Mayer. Songs featured in the score include "Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Holiday” and the title track “American Idiot."
