    Damian Lewis will return to the London stage to star in Edward Albee’s The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? at the Theatre Royal Haymarket for a strictly limited 12 week season.

    This new production, directed by Ian Rickson, will begin previews 24 March 2017 with an official opening night on 5 April. Widely regarded as his late masterpiece, Albee’s Tony Award-winning play is a darkly comic and disturbing view of a family in crisis.

    Last seen on the West End in 2015 in David Mamet’s American Buffalo, Damian Lewis will play Martin. Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning Lewis is best known for his roles on screen in Homeland, Wolf Hall, The Forsyte Saga, Life, Band of Brothers, and most recently Billions. His theatre credits include Martin Crimp’s adaptation of The Misanthrope opposite Keira Knightley, the National Theatre’s production of Ibsen's Pillars of the Community, Five Gold Rings at the Almeida Theatre opposite Helen McCrory, Jonathan Kent’s Broadway production of Hamlet opposite Ralph Fiennes, and work for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

    Former artistic director at the Royal Court, multi award-winning director Ian Rickson's work includes Jerusalem (Royal Court/ West End), Evening At The Talk House, The Red Lion (both National Theatre), Mojo (Royal Court/ West End), Old Times (Harold Pinter Theatre), Hamlet (Young Vic), Betrayal (Comedy Theatre), The Weir (Royal Court/ West End/ Broadway), and The Seagull by Anton Chekhov (Royal Court/ Broadway).

    Award-winning American playwright Edward Albee passed away in September 2016 at the age of 88. His works include The Zoo Story (1958), The Death of Bessie Smith (1959), The Sandbox (1959), The American Dream (1960), Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1961-62, Tony Award), Tiny Alice (1964), A Delicate Balance (1966, Pulitzer Prize; 1996, Tony Award), All Over (1971), Seascape (1974, Pulitzer Prize), Listening (1975), Counting the Ways (1975), The Lady from Dubuque (1977-78), The Man Who Had Three Arms (1981), Finding the Sun (1982), Marriage Play (1986-87), Three Tall Women (1991, Pulitzer Prize), Fragments (1993), The Play about the Baby (1997), The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? (2000, 2002 Tony Award), Occupant (2001), At Home at the Zoo: Act 1, Homelife. Act 2, The Zoo Story. (2004), and Me, Myself & I (2008). Three-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and two-time Tony Award winner, Albee was also awarded the Gold Medal in Drama from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, the Kennedy Center Honors and the National Medal of Arts, and a Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement.
