Following critically-acclaimed sell-out performances at New York's Lincoln Center earlier this year, Academy Award winner Emma Thompson and international opera star Bryn Terfel will reprise their roles in Stephen Sondheim's SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET, at the London Coliseum.

Thompson and Terfel will play Mrs. Lovett and Sweeney Todd respectively in this gloriously gruesome musical, which was first premiered by the New York Philharmonic in February 2014.

Speaking about today's announcement, Thompson said: “I can't believe I am being given the opportunity to perform this extraordinary piece once again - this time with the ENO orchestra.  And of course to sing with such a talent as Bryn is as good as it ever gets.”

The multi award-winning actress and screenwriter Emma Thompson is known for her work across stage, film and television, appearing in the films Henry V, Howards End, Much Ado About Nothing, The Remains Of The Day, In The Name Of The Father, Sense And Sensibility, the Harry Potter series, Love Actually, Angels In America, An Education, Brave and Saving Mr. Banks. Her stage credits include John Osborne’s Look Back in Anger, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and King Lear and the original cast of 1985’s Me And My Girl opposite Robert Lindsay.

Welsh opera and concert singer Bryn Terfel first made his debut with the English National Opera in 1991 in The Marriage Of Figaro. He's performed worldwide at such prestigious venues as London's Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, La Scala in Milan, and New York’s Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall, singing with the likes of José Carreras and Andrea Bocelli. In 2007 Terfel performed the title role in a concert version of Sweeney Todd at London's Royal Festival Hall, and as part of the 2010 BBC Proms he performed in a concert from the Royal Albert Hall celebrating the works of Stephen Sondheim.

SWEENEY TODD will be the first production in a major new long-term partnership between ENO and The GradeLinnit Company to promote musical theatre.
