Gina McKee to star alongside Martin Freeman in Richard III

    Gina McKee, Forbes Masson and Paul McEwan will star alongside previously announced Martin Freeman in RICHARD III, the first production of Jamie Lloyd’s new Trafalgar Transformed season.

    Gina McKee will play Queen Elizabeth. She previously appeared in Jamie Lloyd’s production of Harold Pinter’s The Lover and the Collection at London’s Comedy Theatre. On stage McKee’s also appeared at the Donmar Warehouse in the Michael Grandage productions of Anton Chekov’s Ivanov, and was nominated for an Olivier for her performance in King Lear, starring Derek Jacobi. Her theatre credits include Aristocrats (National Theatre) and Old Times (Donmar Warehouse). McKee has also starred in the film Notting Hill, and the TV series  The Borgias, The Silence, The Lost Prince, The Forsyte Saga and Our Friends in the North. 

    Forbes Masson will play Hastings. Artistic Associate with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre Scotland, Masson’s theatre credits include The Life of Stuff (Donmar), King Lear starring Pete Postlethwaite (Everman Thetare, Liverpool) and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Kensington Gardens). With the RSC, Masson has appeared in Hamlet, Twelfth Night, Macbeth, Comedy of Errors, As You Like It, Romeo and Juliet, Pilate Project, the Histories cycles including Richard II, Henry IV Part Two, Henry, amongst others. His television credits include The High Life with Alan Cumming, EastEnders, The Young Person's Guide To Becoming a Rock Star and Is It Bill Bailey?

    Paul McEwan will play King Edward IV/ Bishop of Ely. McEwan is best known for his role as PC Shane Doyle in Emmerdale, in addition to the TV programmes Clocking Off, No Angels, Holby City, Casualty and Doctors. His stage credits include The Two-Character Play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Royal Exchange), and La Lupa and Richard II for the RSC.

    Completing the cast will be Gerald Kyd (Catesby), Lauren O'Neil (Lady Anne), Philip Cumbus (Richmond), Paul Leonard (Lord Stanley), Simon Coombs (Tyrrel), Mark Meadows (Clarence/ Lord Mayor), Maggie Steed (Queen Margaret) and Jo Stone-Fewings (Buckingham).
