Urinetown announces full cast ahead of UK premiere

    The full cast of the hit Broadway musical URINETOWN has been revealed, ahead of its UK premiere at the St James Theatre. Leading the cast are Cory English, Richard Fleeshman, Jenna Russell and Jonathan Slinger, directed by Jamie Lloyd (The Commitments, The Pride).

    Richard Fleeshman will play Assistant Urinal Custodian and antihero Bobby Strong. On television he's appeared in Coronation Street and All The Small Things, and previously toured Europe and the UK with Elton John. Fleeshman also starred in Legally Blonde opposite Sheridan Smith, and Ghost: The Musical, having originated the role of Sam Wheat (played by Patrick Swayze in the film) in the West End and on Broadway.

    Olivier Award winner Jenna Russell will play the authoritarian Penelope Pennywise. Most recently seen in the Menier Chocolate Factory’s critically acclaimed revival of Merrily We Roll Along, her theatre credits include Season's Greetings (National), Into The Woods (Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park), Guys And Dolls (Donmar), Martin Guerre (Prince Edward), Follies (Shaftesbury) and Les Misérables (Palace Theatre), as well as several productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company. On Broadway she was nominated for a Tony for her performance in Sunday in the Park with George.

    Jonathan Slinger will play Officer Lockstock, the show’s grim narrator. His extensive RSC credits include the Complete Works and This England: The Histories cycles, Richard III, Macbeth, The Tempest, Twelfth Night and most recently, Hamlet. Slinger's West End theatre credits also include Yes, Prime Minister and The Duchess of Malfi at the National.

    Cory English will play Bobby’s dad, Old Man Strong/ Hot Blades Harry. His West End theatre credits include Chicago (Adelphi) and Mel Brooks’ The Producers (Theatre Royal Drury Lane), in addition to Young Frankenstein on Broadway. He previously starred opposite Russell and Ewan McGregor in Michael Grandage’s Guys and Dolls.

    Additional casting includes Katie Bernstein (Little Becky Two Shoes/ Mrs. Millennium), Madeleine Harland (Soupy Sue/ Cladwell’s Secretary), Rosanna Hyland (Hope Cladwell), Julie Jupp (Old Woman/ Josephine Strong), Mark Meadows (Senator Fipp), Joel Montague (Male Swing), Jo Napthine (Female Swing) and Matthew Seadon-Young (Robbie The Stockfish/ UGC Executive #1).
