Iain Glen and Richard McCabe will star in a new production of Ivan Turgenev's FORTUNE'S FOOL at the Old Vic this December.

In FORTUNE'S FOOL, a pair of newlyweds arrive at their country estate to be welcomed by Kuzovkin (Glen), the penniless gentleman-in-residence. Their wealthy and mischievous neighbour Tropatchov (McCabe) drops by for a seemingly innocent celebratory lunch. But champagne-fuelled proceedings degenerate, leading to a shocking revelation with far-reaching consequences.

Mike Poulton's adaptation of this savagely funny play will be directed by Lucy Bailey (Titus Andronicus at Shakespeare's Globe; and Julius Caesar, The Taming of the Shrew and The Winter’s Tale for the Royal Shakespeare Company) from 6 December 2013 until 22 February 2014. This Old Vic production of FORTUNE'S FOOL marks its West End debut.

Star of stage and screen Iain Glen is best known to audiences as Ser Jorah Mormont on HBO's Game Of Thrones. He's appeared on television in Prisoner’s Wives and as Sir Richard Carlisle on Downton Abbey, as well as the films Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Silent Scream and the Resident Evil franchise. Glen has received multiple Olivier Award nominations for his theatre credits which include The Crucible, Hedda Gabler, A Streetcar Named Desire, Henry V, Martin Guerre and The Blue Room opposite Nicole Kidman.

Richard McCabe returns to the West End stage following his performance as former Prime Minister Harold Wilson earlier this year in The Audience, opposite Helen Mirren, for which he won the 2013 Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor. An RSC Associate Artist, McCabe's extensive theatre credits include A Little Hotel on the Side, Yes, Prime Minister, Bingo alongside Patrick Stewart, A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Winter's Tale. He's appeared in the TV series Borgia, Wallander and Spooks, and the films The Duchess, The Constant Gardener, Master and Commander, Notting Hill and Persuasion.

Lucy Briggs-Owen, Dyfan Dwyfor, Janet Fullerlove, Paul Ham, Richard Henders, Simon Markey and Alexander Vlahos will also star. Further casting will be announced soon. FORTUNE'S FOOL was last produced on Broadway in 2002 with Alan Bates and Frank Langella, who both won Tony Awards for their performances.

Featuring designs by William Dudley, lighting by Bruno Poet, music by John Eacott and sound by Mic Pool, stay tuned for when FORTUNE'S FOOL tickets go on sale!
