Now in its 13th year on the West End, Disney’s THE LION KING musical has proven its staying power, reporting record box office earnings for the eighth year in a row.

With best ever sales of more than £38 million, the show has defied the Olympics-related downturn that was widely expected for the West End.

Based on the 1994 animated Disney film of the same name, THE LION KING musical is directed by Julie Taymor, featuring songs by Elton John, lyrics by Tim Rice and a score by Hans Zimmer.

In THE LION KING, the young lion cub Simba will one day become King of the Pride Lands, however his Uncle Scar has other plans for him. Forced into exile, Simba must overcome his past, reclaim his rightful place and fulfill his destiny.

With its August 2012 it became the largest production to ever tour the UK, with visits to both Birmingham and Dublin expected later this year.
