Starring pop sensation Will Young (as the Master of Ceremonies, Emcee), along with Eastender’s star Michelle Ryan (as Sally Bowles), CABARET is set in 1931 Berlin and focuses on nightlife and relationships of members at the seedy Kit Kat Klub. The arrival of a young American writer Cliff Bradshaw (played by Matt Rawle) to the place of decadent celebration sparks a relationship with the nineteen year-old English cabaret performer Sally Bowles (played by Michelle Ryan)
The cast also includes BAFTA Award winner Sian Phillips as Fraulein Schneider, and Harriet Thorpe as Fraulein Kost.
The award winning musical CABARET is based on the stories of Christopher Isherwood which are included in the book ‘Goodbye to Berlin’. These were then adapted into the play ‘I am a Camera’ by John Van Druten in 1951. John Kander and Fred Ebb (The Kiss of the Spiderwoman, Chicago, The Scottsboro Boys) adapted the play into the musical CABARET using a book by Joe Masteroff. The show premiered on Broadway in 1966 and in 1972 was made into an Oscar-winning film starring Liza Minnelli as Sally Bowles, Michael York as Cliff and Joel Grey as the Emcee. Many successful revivals of the show have taken place all over the world; one of the most famous being Sam Mendes’ production at Studio 54.
Cabaret features show-stopping choreography, dazzling costumes and some of the most iconic songs in musical theatre including Money Makes The World Go Round, Two Ladies, Maybe This Time and of course Cabaret.
